Jobs for July to boost the Wildlife in your Garden
Posted on 5th July 2022 at 10:07
July is the time to maintain your perennial meadows.
Before you start strimming do not forget to check in the long grass for Hedgehogs, Frogs and other creatures who maybe hidden. A grass trimmer is best for this job.
It’s best to cut in stages – cut half now and then the other half in about a month’s time. Leave seedheads where they fall for a few days to let the seeds scatter into the soil, then gather up the clippings for compost.
After you have done both cut, mow the meadow with a lawnmower to make it nice and short and even.
As most wildflowers grow best in low-nutrient conditions, it is best to remove all the grass cuttings to avoid enriching the soil.
See are range of Grass Trimmers in our webshop.
Provide safe hiding places and shelter for baby frogs by planting low-growing plants at the edges of your pond. You can also let the grass around the pond as the long grass is also as effective.
Take extra care when mowing or strimming around ponds so as to avoid harming any amphibians.
